What is included in a die set?

A die set usually contains two, three or four dies. A 2-die set is commonly used for rifle cartridges and normally includes a full-length sizing die and a bullet seating die. Handgun calibres often use 3-die or 4-die sets, which may also include an expanding die and a separate crimp die.

2-die, 3-die and 4-die sets

A 2-die set is mainly used for many rifle calibres and covers the essential operations of resizing and bullet seating. A 3-die set usually adds a separate die for expanding the case mouth. A 4-die set often includes a dedicated crimp die, allowing bullet seating and crimping to be carried out as separate operations.

The most suitable configuration depends on the calibre, case type and your preferred reloading workflow.

Full-length or neck sizing?

For rifle cartridges, you can choose between full-length and neck-sizing dies. A full-length sizing die resizes the entire case and is especially suitable for ammunition intended for use in different firearms. A neck-sizing die resizes only the case neck and is commonly used when cases are reloaded for the same firearm.
