RCBS 87305 Caliper for reloading
RCBS Caliper for Reloading
This caliper has not a scale measured in cm. but in the inch, because most reload data comes from the US and because many cases are expressed in inches
This RCBS reload caliper has a range of 6 inches, meaning you can measure a case that is 6 inches (15.24cm) long.
The dial caliper accuracy is +/- 0.001 inch and the clock has a 100 point scale.
Made of stainless steel and delivered in a plastic box, this is an indispensable tool when reloading.
Why is a good caliper important when reloading?
When reloading ammunition it is important to know what the dimensions of the case are, the case length but also the inner and outer diameter of the case mouth are sizes that you would like to keep the same.
When measuring casings that have been used you will see that the sizes are often larger than what it was before shooting. This is because the case is slightly stretched by the enormous pressure that is created during the burning of the gunpowder in the case.
If the case is too large, it must be shortened with, for example, a case trimmer, which mills a small piece of the brass of the case so that it fits exactly in the chamber of the weapon.
